How Much Fabric Do You Need for a Mukhawar?
Since our fabric is sold by the meter and sent to a tailor, one of the most common questions is simply: how much do I need for a mukhawar?
Standard mukhawar
A typical adult mukhawar, being a full-length, loose-fitting dress, usually needs around 3 to 3.5 meters of fabric, depending on your height and the fabric's width (commonly 140cm or 150cm). Taller heights or fuller silhouettes may need closer to 4 meters.
With added fullness or layering
If you want extra fullness in the sleeves or body, or you're adding a separate under-layer, add another 0.5 to 1 meter to be safe. Chiffon and silk mukhawars with a flowing, layered look often use a bit more fabric than a simple cotton cut.
Patterned fabric
Prints with a directional or large-scale repeat may need a bit of extra fabric so the pattern matches cleanly at the seams. If your design has a bold repeat, it's worth ordering 0.5 meters more than your base estimate.
A simple rule of thumb
It's almost always worth ordering slightly more than your calculated estimate — a small buffer avoids running short mid-project, and leftover fabric is easy to use for a matching hijab or accessories.
